I honestly had the worse experience at this specific reflex gym. I booked my 3 year old toddler an experience on Saturday 9/30 10:00am. Accompanied by a family member and her 4 year old. Upon first walking in the instructor Hannah, seemed shocked and not pleased to see us. It was all over her face. She was not welcoming at all. She was just staring at us until I finally said “Hi this is our first time I signed her up for the 10am class time not sure where to go” she then instructed where I would sit and that my daughter needed to take off her shoes and come to where she was. We obliged and class began. Being as though this was their very first class the toddlers followed along but they were delayed with some of her instruction. I can tell she was getting frustrated because as she began to specifically give them instruction.she kept glancing at me. So I got involved from the sidelines to help things go smoother. Which helped. 45 mins into the hour class she comes over (not even pulling me and family member to the side) in front of other parents. Saying that they would need to discontinue the lesson until the kids will be able to follow all instruction. She said it’s taking away from the experience of the other toddlers and parents. In the moment I felt bullied and that she was using the other parents to do so. She made me feel out of place. I asked her was she used to dealing with toddlers. She said she had 3 years experience and she knows how to deal with toddlers. Then proceeded to say it takes practice and time for the toddlers to get adjusted to the class. In my mind I’m thinking well if your admitting it takes practice why are you attempting to turn them away on their first time, knowing it’ll take practice. Because you have no patience. After this exchange she allowed them to continue the last 10 minutes of class, but the way I left feeling is undeniable. Do I feel like it’s because of the color of my skin? Yes. No patience with little African American kids. My kids where respectful but just being toddlers. I was respectful but I knew I wouldn’t dare spend a dime at a place so unwelcoming and racist as this.
